FORT Ecologists Featured in Santa Fe Reporter Cover Story

Thursday, May 18, 2017

FORT Ecologist Collin Haffey and Research Ecologist Ellis Margolis were featured in this week's cover story for the Santa Fe Reporter. The story, The Heart of Darkness: A walk through the scorched landscapes where our forest used to be and a glimpse of our future fires, highlighted the East Jemez Landscape Futures project which is working to collaboratively develop both research and management strategies across multiple land jurisdictions for areas severely altered by high-severity fire, flooding, and drought-induced forest dieback disturbances in the Jemez Mountains of northern New Mexico. This work is led by the USGS-FORT New Mexico Landscapes Field Station, in partnership with Bandelier National Monument and The Landscape Conservation Initiative.
