USGS Assists Klamath River Managers

Friday, September 1, 2000

The Bureau of Reclamation, Mid Pacific Region, has requested simulations of their water management operations on the Klamath River in Oregon and California using the Systems Impact Analysis Model (SIAM) developed by USGS scientists for the Klamath River. The request requires that USGS scientists perform simulations to model reservoir and river flows, as well as the associated water temperature and dissolved oxygen, and emphasizes reducing instream flows below Iron Gate Dam throughout September. These results were used during discussions on September 1, 2000 between the Bureau of Reclamation and the National Marine Fisheries Service, who have responsibility for salmon recovery and minimum instream flows below Iron Gate Dam as part of a Section 7 consultation.
