Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Construction of a Demonstration Wetland

On January 27, 2015 a groundbreaking ceremony took place near Waco, Texas to commemorate the start of construction on a manmade wetland designed to reduce or remove endocrine disrupting compounds from treated wastewater. The new and innovative design incorporates a unique combination of surface and subsurface treatment zones, as well as passive aeration units including cascades and turbulent stream channels.

New Paper Describes Migratory Bird Use of Southwestern U.S. Habitat

A new paper in the journal Condor, authored by USGS scientists Janet Ruth, Robb Diehl, and others, describes how the authors used radar data and satellite land-cover data to identify the various habitats with which birds are associated during migration stopovers.
