Las aplicaciones potenciales de los isótopos estables en estudios ecológicos no tienen límites. En este “Spotlight” hemos enfocado en los estudios que intentan descubrir las relaciones entre hábitats temporales de las aves migratorias. Esta tarea es muy importante para la conservación de esas especies. Adicionalmente, científicos de FORT están utilizando los isótopos estables para estudiar una amplia variedad de temas ecológicos. Por ejemplo, Dr. Fritz Knopf está utilizando la technología para relacionar los hábitats temporales del Mountain Plover (Charidrius montanus), una ave que emigra a corta distancia. También, Paul Cryan está estudiando los desplazamientos de los murciélagos migratorios, Dr. Rey Stendell está investigando la história ecológica de alimentación del White-tailed Kite (Elanus leucurus) y Dr. A. Jeanette Carpenter está utilizando los isótopos para estudiar las relaciones entre peces nativos y cangrejos de rio exóticos en los arroyos del estado de Arizona.
