The 2006 Black-footed Ferret Conservation Subcommittee, a working arm of the Recovery Implementation Team, met January 23-24 at the USGS Fort Collins Science Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. Committee members will draft or review documents related to defining a ferret reintroduction process for new sites; prioritizing reintroduction sites; evaluating the process for allocating ferrets to new or existing sites; and reporting progress toward recovery goals. Participants include representatives from U.S. state and federal agencies, tribes, zoos, conservation groups, and Canadian and Mexican agencies and institutions. FORT scientist Dean Biggins will discuss research related to the impacts of plague on ferrets and prairie dogs at reintroduction sites.
