FORT research zoologist Erin Muths was invited to participate in an international networking workshop concerning experimental disease dynamics and mitigating chytridiomycosis, a lethal fungal disease caused by Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis with often devastating effects on amphibians. The workshop was held at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, Oct. 14-16, 2010, to synthesize current results of disease dynamics experiments, discuss potential mitigation strategies, and identify needs for future disease ecology studies and management of natural populations. Dr. Muths presented her research on the dynamics and behavior of this disease in Rocky Mountain toad populations.
