Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Beaver

USGS scientists Bruce Baker (Fort Collins Science Center) and Ed Hill (retired) contributed the chapter on beaver to the newly released, second edition of Wild Mammals of North America: Biology, Management, and Conservation, published by Johns Hopkins University Press. First published in 1982, the new 2003 edition has been completely revised to reflect research conducted during the past 20 years and describes the most current and comprehensive data on the physiology, ecology, behavior, commercial value, and life history of 57 mammal species and species groups. Dr. Baker's current research seeks to understand beaver effects on landscape processes and why beaver populations have declined in Rocky Mountain National Park.
