The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Fort Collins Science Center (FORT) Web Applications ("Apps") Team is a group of application software and systems specialists, programmers, business analysts, technical writers, and other IT specialists who design, develop, and deploy Web-based applications for natural resource scientists and managers. To support development and implementation of Web applications and tools developed by the FORT Web Apps Team and by other groups within the USGS, the Team provides systems support for the Web applications infrastructure. This means creating platforms that are powerful enough for developers to work within when building products and Web environments for customers. It also means supplying Web services that can connect and provide access to databases stored in sites all over the country.
Specifically, the Team (1) designs and enhances systems and (2) hosts and maintains hardware and servers for networks, databases, data storage, and applications. Two infrastructure systems in particular provide the foundation for the tools and applications scientists and managers need to serve and access information and save time, money, and effort.
