Testing and Evaluating a USGS Forecasting System for Invasive Species

Research Task: 8327CP8.1.0
Task Manager: Tim Kern

NASA and FORT scientists have combined expertise in software engineering, Earth observations, and high-performance computing with satellite and biological field data to begin development of the Invasive Species Modeling and Assessment System, a Web-based tool for combating invasive plant species. This system combines NASA satellite data with field surveys to analyze past and present distributions of non-native plants and predict their future spread. Currently, FORT is developing a pilot of the operational enterprise system. When fully implemented, this system will provide operational capacity for forecasting and modeling in support of invasive species early detection and rapid assessment efforts.
