Shorebird Population and Habitat Sampling Problems in Extensive Ephemeral Wetland Systems

Research Task: 8327999.2.0
Task Manager: Susan Skagen

For much-needed food and rest during their long-distance migrations, shorebirds rely heavily on the extensive, ephemeral wetland systems found throughout the Northern Great Plains states. In this task, FORT researchers are examining shorebird population and habitat sampling problems to develop more accurate population estimates and methods for monitoring these highly mobile and dispersed species. This information can help guide species conservation at continental and regional scales.
