Abstract

Temperature regimes of flowing water are affected by several factors inclusing flow, shade, and channel morphology. Stream alterations that change temperature regimes and affect fish can be difficult to evaluate. This document will aid biologists in analyzing temperature regimes and preparing technically defensible recommendations for fish protection. This report includes an explanation of basic temperature tolerance relations plus three options for developing recommendations. Although examples in the document pertain to spring chinook salmon. the principles apply to all fish species.
