Stepping Lightly

In the interest of minimizing the carbon footprint of this meeting, we are endeavoring to minimize paper use, highway emissions, energy consumption, and waste. We request that participants consider carpooling, sharing rental cars and rooms, or taking the airport shuttle (it drops off and picks up from the Hilton and other major hotels in Fort Collins). The Hilton has a free shuttle that can transport you around Fort Collins. Please join us in minimizing our environmental impact.

The Hilton Fort Collins, 425 West Prospect Road, will hold a block of rooms under “Plague Symposium” for our participants. Special lodging rates will apply if booked by October 13.

Guests can either call the hotel directly at 970.482.2626 or call toll-free 1.800.HILTONS. Please make your reservation by October 13 and ask for the “Plague Symposium” block of rooms. The Hilton Hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to downtown Fort Collins.

Getting to Fort Collins

The airport shuttle, Shamrock Airport Express, can take you directly from Denver International Airport (DIA) to the Hilton Fort Collins for a fare of $35 one-way. You can make a reservation by phone (970.482.0505) or on the internet at http://www.rideshamrock.com. The shuttle trip takes about two hours. If you decide to rent a car, it normally takes about 1¼ –1½ hours to commute from DIA to the Hilton Fort Collins. Toll-road costs (E-470) are $4.00 each way (2 toll stops @$2/ea; see map at link below).

Maps and Directions

Located just south of Colorado State University's main campus, the Hilton Hotel is on Prospect Road at the southeast intersection of Prospect Road and Centre Avenue (see I-25 to Hilton Hotel map). Fort Collins is approximately 55 miles north of Denver and about 60 miles from Denver International Airport (see DIA to Fort Collins map). The toll road, E-470, is the fastest, easiest route connecting DIA and north I-25. There are two toll booths; they do not span the highway but you MUST pull into them or your car will be photographed and you will be ticketed. Have $4.00 available to use this route ($2.00 per toll booth; change is available at both toll booths).

Peña Blvd. WEST to E-470 (Enter E-470 at exit 28 )
E-470 NORTH to I-25 (18.5 miles; E-470 joins 1-25 at exit 46 ; follow signs NORTH to Fort Collins)
I-25 NORTH to Fort Collins (to Prospect Road, Exit 268)

* Returning south to DIA: E-470 is exit 228 off of I-25; Follow E-470 South to DIA exit (Pena Blvd E)
