The Plains and Prairie Pothole Landscape Conservation Cooperative hosted a "Connections" workshop 4-5 April 2012 in Bismarck, ND, with the PPP-LLC technical team members and affiliated principal investigators. The Connections group examined the investigators' research against the list of decisions and objectives the PPPLLC technical team identified previously during a science needs workshop. Specifically, the team continued to evaluate where the science gaps exist and where their ongoing efforts are assisting the partnership with previously identified objectives. As one of the investigators, FORT scientist William Gascoigne presented on his work, which involves conducting (1) a larger economic analysis to investigate the economic contribution of recreation and restoration efforts in the Prairie Pothole Region and (2) a qualitative analysis on how conservation as a land-management strategy tends to impact rural communities, with an investigative report on when and why conservation does or doesn't benefit the region.
