The Alaska Region of DOI National Business Center, Aviation Management Directorate, is hosting the Fourth Annual Alaska UAS Interest Group Conference in Anchorage September 13-15, 2011. Employees associated with the Rocky Mountain Area (RMA)--including Leanne Hanson (FORT), Phil Owen (RMGSC), David Johncox (USGS Aviation Safety Manager), and Lisa Scales (RMGSC)--are providing support for the conference as well as several presentations. (Hanson was part of a USGS-FWS team that planned and conducted a pilot study in the spring of this year, using the Raven A small UAS to count migrating sandhill cranes in south-central Colorado.) Also planned for the conference are demonstration flights of the Raven A and possibly the Shadow and Scan Eagle small UASs. (Leanne Hanson, Fort Collins, CO, 970-226-9262)
