Going Bats

 

Three FORT scientists are presenting at the 40th Annual Symposium on Bat Research hosted by the North American Society for Bat Research (NASBR) October 27-30 in Denver, Colo. Ernest Valdez is presenting on "Diets of the sympatric Pacific sheath-tailed bat and Mariana swiftlet on Aguiguan, Mariana Islands." Paul Cryan will be presenting an overview of research needs for white-nose syndrome during a panel discussion on this devastating disease and a research poster entitled, "Evidence of mating readiness in certain bats killed by wind turbines." Laura Ellison is presenting a poster she coauthored with Dr. Cryan and retired USGS scientist Tom O'Shea, also related to white-nose syndrome in bats: "A Map of the Big Brown Bat Wing: 'Typical' Damage and Scarring in an Urban Maternity Population Prior to White-Nose Syndrome."
