The USGS Fort Collins Science Center (FORT) hosted the Institutional Analysis for Environmental Decision-Making Workshop on January 28-29 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Sponsored jointly by the FORT, USGS Science Impact Program, Colorado State University, and Faculty of Engineering at Yamaguchi University (Japan), participants from federal agencies, universities and nonprofit organizations heard and discussed 25 papers given by scientists from the U.S. and 7 other countries. The workshop was held to advance social science theory and methods, improve their practical applications for managers and planners, and examine how institutional analysis clarifies the relationship between science and decision-making. USGS scientists Lee lamb and Nina Burkardt discussed the role of their Legal-Institutional Analysis Model (LIAM) in analyzing multi-organizational conflicts.
