Updates in Brown Tree Snake Research

CNN interviewed USGS scientists Tom Fritts and Gordon Rodda to learn background and new developments pertaining to the brown tree snake problem in Guam, other Pacific Islands, and the continental U.S. The brown tree snake is an invasive species that has hunted most native species of birds, bats, and lizards to extinction on Guam and threatens other Pacific islands, including Hawaii. USGS research on the snake was featured as part of a larger series on invasive species. The recent interviews were to supplement coverage and interviews from an earlier showing on the same subject several years ago.
