The Southwest Landscape Change Workshop, scheduled for February 20-22 in Las Cruces, NM, seeks to foster interdisciplinary research and collaboration within and among USGS programs, customers, and stakeholders concerning landscape change in the arid Southwest. Fire is a dynamic and integral part of landscape change in the Southwest. USGS scientists and their partners will present on several studies investigating fire effects, including the use of pre- and post-fire satellite images to model, from various scientific perspectives, the multiple-scale effects of fires; and using spatial modeling to investigate relationships among fuels, fire severity, and post-fire invasion by exotic plants.
