USGS Scientist to Discuss New Initiative on Invasive Species

 

USGS ecologist Tom Stohlgren is an invited speaker at the 86th annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America in Madison, Wisconsin, August 5-10. During the workshop "How to Make Advances in Conservation Ecology Hit the Ground," he will present "Invasive Species in National Parks and Natural Areas." In it he will discuss the new USGS and partner agencies' "One if by land, two if by sea" Initiative on invasive species activities, which seeks to document, map, and predict invasion of non-native plants, animals, and diseases in the U.S. Stohlgren also will present "Do Species Traits or Habitat Characteristics Determine Non-native Plant Invasion? A Synthesis from Rocky Mountain National Park" and chair an oral session on the effects of disturbance in natural ecosystems.
