Dr. Tom Stohlgren, an ecologist with the USGS Fort Collins Science Center, will present the prestigious Jill Adams Memorial Lecture at the University of Washington, Seattle, April 7-10. This is the 30th Anniversary of the event. He will discuss “Patterns of Plant Invasion in the US” and “Grazing and Fire Effects on Invasive Plant Distributions.” Stohlgren’s first presentation will show that invasive plants have invaded hotspots of native plant diversity and rare habitats in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah, and many of the nation’s forests. His second presentation will show that soil fertility, fire, and small mammal activity may play a more important role than grazing in plant invasions.
