USGS Bison Scientist Appointed to IUCN Group

 

FORT scientist Kate Schoenecker

FORT scientist Kate Schoenecker was recently appointed to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) North American Bison Specialist Group, which focuses on conservation of North American bison. The role of this specialist group is to provide technical guidance and support to ongoing efforts to restore bison in North America, produce science-based guidance on key issues and threats to restoration of the species, and coordinate and communicate with the European Bison Specialist Group to ensure global recovery of bison. Since 2004, Ms. Schoenecker has been working on bison ecology, population dynamics, movement and habitat studies in the arid Great Sand Dunes ecosystem of southern Colorado.
