Sharing Science in Spain: Climate and Forest Dieback as an Emerging Global Phenomenon

Ponderosa pine dieback in the Jemez Mountains, NM.

USGS scientist Craig D. Allen was the featured speaker at a public session of the new Communication Forum, a "meeting place" under the Global Change Field Laboratory in Sierra Nevada Natural and National Park, Spain. The inaugural forum on April 17-18 was in two parts, the public awareness event with Dr. Allen on April 17, and a scientific-adaptive management oriented meeting the next day, which he also attended. As part of his mountain systems exchange work with Sierra Nevada colleagues, Dr. Allen discussed climate-induced forest dieback in southwestern U.S. forests and woodlands.
