FORT research ecologist Jill Baron is a lead author in one of 21 “Synthesis and Assessment Products” (SAPs) being developed under the auspices of the U.S. Climate Change Science Program. The SAP series will integrate research results on important science issues related to climate change for decisionmakers. Dr. Baron’s chapter in SAP 4.4, Adaptations of National Parks to Climate Change, will serve as a preliminary report to Congress identifying current and potential activities in national parks that can be used to prepare for climate-related effects on natural resources. In preparation for writing this chapter, Dr. Baron hosted a workshop on Dec. 13-15 in Annapolis, Md., that included a listening and learning session with national park managers and other stakeholders. Contributing authors and Environmental Protection Agency chairs of SAP 4.4 (Preliminary Review of Adaptation Options for Climate-Sensitive Ecosystems and Resources) also participated.
