Located on the University of New Mexico main campus in Albuquerque, the Arid Lands Field Station is a satellite office of the Fort Collins Science Center, U.S. Geological Survey. Staff members work in two nearby buildings, Castetter Hall (Biology) and CERIA (Museum of Southwestern Biology).

The zoological collection managed by USGS staff at the University of New Mexico Museum of Southwestern Biology in Albuquerque was highlighted in the recent issue of “Interior Shelves,” DOI’s newsletter on museum property. The USGS collection has served as a repository for specimens collected in support of Federal research in the western United States for nearly 100 years. Bird and mammal specimen data are accessible online through Arctos, a comprehensive collection management system serving museum records for multiple scientific collections in the United States. The specimens represent long-term resources that can be used in support of USGS mission areas such as climate and land-use change, ecosystems, and environmental health.
